Our Commitment to Inclusion

We long to be passionate followers of Jesus Christ, committed to a Wesleyan vision of Christianity, anchored in scripture and informed by tradition, experience and reason as we live a life of personal piety and social holiness.

In keeping with our baptismal covenant, we renew our commitment to resist evil, injustice and oppression in all forms and toward all people. We are a church where all are invited to a life-changing encounter with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and none are left out of that invitation, to build a church which affirms the full participation of all ages, nations, races, classes, cultures, gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities.

We reject any efforts to divide the Body of Christ and any efforts that seek to exclude any parts of the Body of Christ. We seek to be faithful to the Gospel as the rule of faith and life, while recognizing that we are not of one mind on any number of questions and humbly acknowledging that human understanding of God’s will is limited. To that end, we will resist implementation of the Traditional Plan adopted at the 2019 General Conference as inconsistent with our shared values.

We will work to eliminate discriminatory language and the restrictions and penalties in the Discipline regarding LGBT and any other persons as we together seek God’s guidance for us as a church and for all of God’s creation. We know that our church family is richer because it includes our LGBT kindred in its life and ministry. We are the church, the gloriously messy Body of Christ in all its diversity, living together in humility and striving to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. There is room for all at the table.
