Our reflection on the wilderness journey begins not with the Israelites, but with Jesus. Before he began his ministry, Jesus “was driven by the Spirit into the wilderness,” where he prayed and fasted for 40 days. By the end of his time, he was mentally and spiritually ready to resist the temptations of Satan and to proclaim the kingdom of God in a broken world. The wilderness can be a lonely and difficult place, but sometimes it is exactly what we need to equip us for the road ahead.
