The story of the Emmaus Road encounter captivates our imagination with its detail, relatability, and surprise ending. Would we recognize the risen Christ if he appeared to us? We need the words of Christ to bring us comfort; we need his presence to be made known to us in the breaking of the bread. We need Jesus to open our eyes to see what we cannot see on our own.
