In the musical, a cocky, young Alexander Hamilton crows about his intellectual prowess and bravery. Convinced that now is the time to make history, he promises, “I am not throwing away my shot!” In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus instructed his followers to live fully into who God created them to be, to be salt and light in the world. “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” Let us not “throw away our shot” to live our faith openly and powerfully in witness to the world.
