Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:35-38, 42-55, 57 (NRSVUE)

“If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.” Paul makes this extraordinary claim near the conclusion of his first letter to the church at Corinth. Resurrection is the central conviction of the Christian faith, yet it was incredibly difficult to explain – no less so today. Paul’s words in the fifteenth chapter help us to gain deeper appreciation for the complexity of this theology, but also give us the freedom to let go of some of our popular misconceptions about what resurrection means. Finally, with faith, we can proclaim with Paul: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
